The Scrawl was influenced by a surplus of small community-based challenges I had discovered over the past year or so. Writing, gaming, media, and contests – basically this idea of community involvement was something I realized everyone wanted to be a part of.
As a small-time published writer I wanted to create a vessel that would allow anybody to create content and share it with a community. Taking a simple question and allowing anyone in the world to answer it was something that intrigued me: responses shaped by life experiences.I wanted to create an experiment that allowed all of my friends to participate (most did not enjoy the same genres or writing styles as I did). With so many different backgrounds and interests I quickly realized that by opening up the subject matter to media of all kinds I would be able to reach many more people.
The idea of one question having so many different variables is the idea behind The Scrawl; one question can be answered in an infinite amount of ways and in a mass array of mediums. With social media’s popularity climbing exponentially, it seemed like the perfect way to get the word out and allow or submissions in all forms of media.
